ALCHEMY EDITION 95

Concluding a 12 year life chapter is humbling. As the weeks progress I've had many feelings about my life and time at Zelma Rose. Mostly all good, coupled by some disorienting realizations, and lots of relief. I'm being patient with the unfolding and working very hard at not sprinting off to the next adventure. I'm historically terrible at doing this, I'm a super excitable person and stillness does not come easy to me.  So I am practicing it and failing a lot.    On a recent and wild dive into the world of Human Design, I came upon the idea of receivership. Energetically speaking, there are two modes of being. Output and input. And the two cannot happen at the...

ALCHEMY EDITION 94

This week on the podcast I offer up a THEORY episode about a psychiatric nurse and a patient I worked with on a hospital unit many years ago. It’s a sweet story about life and work and how the hard journey of getting to know ourselves is always worth it. I briefly mention a co-therapist style of group facilitation and I wanted to share here in the newsletter a little background on the significance of group work and the specific reasons why this co-facilitator style is so effective.    Before we dive in, I want to encourage you to welcome yourself to this conversation. A lot of discussions like this are had by professionals trying to foster change, yet the...

ALCHEMY EDITION 93

Yesterday marked my last day at a job I’ve had for over 12 years. I loved this job. I was good at this job. And also, I quit this job.    I have never viewed myself as a quitter, not that I harbor judgment for the act, but I always considered myself to be leaving one thing for another. Mostly because nearly all of my other quits have been because things were not going well. I was forced to choose between what I knew was wrong and the unknown. Historically, I have chosen the unknown over misery. But this time, things were going great. I had a plan. It was good. But I didn’t care. And that felt empty.   ...

ALCHEMY EDITION 92

Every once in a while the internet delivers. I happen upon something through a random trail of breadcrumbs from link to link that tickles me so deeply I want to take to the streets and cheer the world wide web. And the idea of the Presentology Society did just that. I hope it is an actual club. I propose we get embroidered satin jackets.    The following is a quote from big thinker and systems pioneer Russell Ackoff.  I cannot stop thinking about it.    "I have no interest in forecasting the future, only in creating it by acting appropriately in the present. I am a founding member of the  Presentology Society."   Are you ready to become a Presentology...

ALCHEMY EDITION 91

Last week I attended theWharton Future of Work Conference. It was like a baseball trading card convention of psychologically minded nerds all meeting up to talk about work systems. And I loved it. The focus was, as you might assume, the future of work and what work looks like at this stage of the pandemic. Much of the conversation centered around work from home versus return to the office, and of course hybrid. (If you are wondering what the answer is, it's hybrid). In relation to creating healthy work systems post work from home, I was most excited to hear Carol Dweck, the pioneer of growth mindset, and yes, she did not disappoint. But the real surprise of the day was...
