ALCHEMY EDITION 105

If you are an avid JOY listener, you know that around 2007 I suffered from PTSD accompanied by of all things, hallucinations. Ooof. It’s not what you think and certainly not what I even thought it would be. Hallucinations don't feel the way you think they do. It’s not a trip gone sideways or like walking through a dream. Hallucinations do not have to be debilitating. Mine were not. They can be odd and sometimes subtle. And also, sometimes not scary at all. (I should mention here that if you are curious to learn more about my experience with PTSD and treatment, you can listen to JOY episode 75 here).   My diagnosis came on the heels of time spent working...

ALCHEMY EDITION 104

As I wrote last week, I took some time off from work to tackle a few renovation projects around the house. I enjoy renovation work as it allows my mind to problem solve which I love, but also do so in an entirely different way than is usually required. Most of my coaching and fine art problem solving involves the creative, even touching on the metaphysical, but in home renovation, it’s all very literal and concrete. Measurement based. ALCHEMY EDITION 103

Last week's newsletter was a doozy! Thanks so much for reading and to everyone who wrote back. I feel it too. It's not only okay to be angry, it's appropriate. Also, I really appreciate the feedback about wanting access to past newsletters. I'm happy to say I am in the process of creating a beautiful home for my newsletters and written content. It will take a bit of time to get things set how I would like, but know that it is coming.    I wanted to take some time this week to check in with you all! I have spent the last 9 days with my computer unplugged and it has been bliss. I cannot remember the last time...

There is so much to say. And also nothing. I’m tired. Not like the physically exhausted you get from doing too much or staying out late. I’m soul tired. And also really fucking angry. And that’s as we would say in the psych business, an appropriate response. A friend recently said to me, “well, I don't know about you, but I plan on dying angry.” And I totally get that.    I have been struggling with my responsibility as a mental health advocate in what to say or what to post when people’s lives are put so directly in harm's way. Whether it’s guns or restrictions on healthcare, war, or equal rights. And sadly, I haven't had the energy to...

ALCHEMY EDITION 101

THE WORLD FEEDBACK SURVEY   Oh this feels BIG and very exciting!    I hit the pause button on presenting my Human Centered Design Systems course project (we will pick up there next week) because I finally finished something that has been in the works for a few months now. And I just couldn’t wait to share.   Introducing the World Feedback Survey!    The purpose of this survey is to collect stories of memorable feedback for a study to help inform how we can become better at both giving and receiving useful feedback.    Cool, right?!   Head on over to my website and share your story, it only takes 3 minutes and you will be helping me shape the future of feedback!   ...
