ALCHEMY EDITION 110

I had something else planned for the newsletter this week, I was writing about my FEEDBACK research and then I found myself diving deep into the world of Human Design, so I switched the script. My client, Bridget Brown of The Advisory Guild (permission was granted to share) asked me to take a look at her Human Design chart to help her strategize an upcoming work presentation. I thought sharing part of our strategy and how it came about would provide an opportunity to walk you through my approach to readings and illuminate how you can use Human Design as a really helpful and laser focused actionable tool in all aspects of your life.    Bridget was seeking direction on strategy for...

ALCHEMY EDITION 109

A little over two years ago while lamenting over shut down via FaceTime, my good friend Bridget asked if I knew my Human Design. We were talking about work and she mentioned that understanding her design had made a really big difference in how she spends her energy. “Go here, type this in and then read it,” is pretty much what she said. A natural experimenter I knew I was game as soon as Bridget mentioned there was something new for me to try. I did just as she suggested and received a neatly typed booklet guiding me through this whole new world. I read the booklet in one sitting and then it sat on my desk untouched for the...

ALCHEMY EDITION 108

This week I want to dive a little more deeply into today’s JOY episode. I talk about the messy parts of process, making process not so precious and my own professional evolution from fine artist to psychotherapist to alchemist. Yeah, I’m surprised too. But alchemist feels the most true of all of those things. A bridge between the data driven scientist and the wildly creative fine artist. I’m not one or the other, but a third thing in between. And that place is a wilderness I have come to really love.    I have struggled so deeply to settle into this bridge. This wilderness. To be this third thing in between. I share in detail on the podcast, so I...

ALCHEMY EDITION 107

If you listened to my JOY interview last week with Dr. Pauline Boss, you'll remember part of our discussion led to an examination of the difference between patience and strategy. I was delighted to hear that many of you shared my interest in this part of the interview - it seems like you just couldn't stop thinking about it either.    I loved more than anything else just how specific Dr. Boss was able to get in her breakdown of how the trait of patience is attributed to women. It is an expectation put upon us, primarily connected to mothering. We are to be patient and kind as mothers and as potential mothers even if we never want children. The assignment...

ALCHEMY EDITION 106

One of the many strange things about being in the field of psychology is that despite an ongoing effort to open thoughts and emotions up for exploration, sometimes the clinician’s perspective can actually become quite narrow. I understand that reads like a paradox when so much of the profession is about opening things up, providing space, perspective and potential. But sometimes in the pursuit of opening things up, we can unintentionally close things off.    I was reminded of this paradox a few weeks ago when I met up with my kiddo’s pro at our local skatepark.  She needed some help problem solving around lines that had her at a standstill. A line is basically how you see part of...
