THESE THREE THINGS WITH CHRISTINA LOFF

For this exciting THESE THREE THINGS SEGMENT discussion, I am delighted to host Senior Marketing and Publicity Director at Chronicle Books and founder of Tweet Sweet Jewelry, CHRISTINA LOFF! Join us while we discuss crisis versus staying cool, story versus belief, and of course, RuPaul. Listen here.

  1. It's PR not ER - one of my favorite former bosses used to say this all the time and I've never forgotten it. It's what I say now to my own team and it's how I try to approach what may seem like a crisis at work. Basically she'd remind us that we weren't saving lives, and while our jobs mattered there was nothing we could do that could have catastrophic repercussions. It's also kind of informed my philosophy on work and being a manager. We spend a lot of time working in our lives and if we don't enjoy what we're doing we should evaluate that. I try to create an atmosphere at work that makes people like coming to the office everyday - oh so much harder over zoom these days but adjusting.
  2.  Listen to reality not the stories we tell ourselves - this is something i picked up in the last few years and I love it so much. Cy Wakeman talks about this a lot and it really resonated with me when I first heard it. It's all about paying attention to the stories you tell yourself vs. reality. As humans we make up stories that aren't there and that can send us into a tailspin. Like reading into why someone walked by and didn't say hello. Instead of making up stories just look at reality and what information you have instead of letting your brain fill in the gaps.
  3. This Rupaul quote: "Unless they're paying your bills, pay them bitches no mind". I have been seriously bingeing RuPaul's Drag Race this shelter in place time and this line has resonated with me. I worry way too much about what other people think of me - or have at certain times in my life so this is a good mantra for me.
