“I pick my pitches.” - Andy Richter.
Andy Richter, the brilliant longtime sidekick to the ever hilarious Conan O’Brien, has his own podcast. It’s called 3 Questions with Andy Richter. He asks guests what he has asked guests of the Conan show between commercial breaks for the past 25 years. They are, “where are you from, where are you going, and what have you learned.” There’s so much to adore about Andy. From his unassuming midwestern charm to his complete open heartedness and transparency around his struggles with depression to his often rocky and emotional childhood. To promote his own podcast he’s appearing on recent episodes of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend and Armchair Expert, two of my faves. Between his own episode and the other two, it’s a lovely listen of his comedic rise, relationship with comedy, and how he has managed to nail the impossible as being one of the most popular and beloved late night sidekicks - and why he doesn’t mind the title. So much to learn, more than I could write here, but I just loved the quote above. It really is all about picking your pitches.
