1. No words. Last year I decided to choose a word to lead me into 2017. I chose practice, and damn if my daily practices were not tested to death all year. I considered this deeply when thinking about choosing another word to lead me into 2018. So instead of a word, I'm sticking with my mantra, which has worked for me on all the days in all the ways, going on over a year and a half now. Here we go again...
2. Today I promise to be my best self. To be an outstanding mother, a passionate artist, a good friend, and an open hearted woman, I will get on the mat, create with great abandon in the studio, and remember that wherever there is a lock, there is always a key. I am sending love to those who need it and to those who don't think they do. I'm going to start here, small but mighty.
3. In addition to my daily mantra I have been reading this quote to myself each morning when I go to work in the studio. "Belief in your script is essential." - Bono. It is written on my work table and whenever I change the kraft paper covering it, I write it down again. Sometimes the idea itself becomes so big, it feels like it encompasses absolutely everything in my life. Other times, it just feels like a pep talk I give myself before a big meeting or a phone call. In either case I discovered the quote on one of my many Bono journeys this year. (And if you are wondering, yes he's still my business coach, even though I'm pretty mad at him right now, and that's been a learning experience too). So in essence, I'm starting the year in ways that I finished the last, holding on to the good and releasing what needs to be let go.
