3. Plot a trajectory. I was just watching a documentary about R.E.M. They are one of the few bands I regret never seeing live. I always liked them, but more recently I have discovered just how incredible they were. In the documentary, Michael Stipe is talking about their music and their every once in a while cross over into pop culture. In essence he says that the band always had a trajectory that they maintained and every once in a while pop culture would bump into them and they would have a hit record, and then the band would move on again. I love this. They were just doing their thing and the moments where they experienced fame were times that the world collided with their vision. Whoa. Long live art.
