When your good friend writes a book, you need to buy it and read it. It is a wonderful thing to witness a friend kick ass professionally. I am so incredibly proud! Outside of just being psyched that my friend wrote a book, this book is amazing. Not only is it needed so badly right now, it's smart, funny, accessible, and pretty much perfect. I'm buying a copy to donate to my kid's school library. Everyone needs to read this.

Today's THESE 3 THINGS are taken from the book There is no Good Card for This: What to Say and Do When Life is Scary, Awful, and Unfair to People You Love, written by Emily McDowell and Kelsey Crowe, Ph.D.

1. "In order to receive we must notice what is given."

"The more likely we are to notice what we do receive, the less likely we are to notice what we failed to get."

2. "Your'e not a burden. You're a human."

3. "At its core, compassion is the acceptance of suffering."
