I’ve never been able to determine why, but moths like sleeping by our front door. I’ve discovered many moths, all different kinds hanging around by our door. Often they rest on the door jam, but sometimes I find them by the welcome mat or keyhole. It used to be that I would find them after they had died. In which case I would photograph them in my studio, then place them into the juniper bushes to join the earth once again. However, more than half the moths shown here were photographed while alive. I photograph them where they are, usually the white door jam and then edit out the surroundings. It only takes a few seconds to get the shot before I sneak away. They are among my favorite creatures we share the property with. I feel honored to spend a few seconds with them.
