The California landscape differs vastly from the lush East Coast manicured lawns and well shaped shrubs I grew up amongst. My house in on a bedrock mountain and if you dig past a few feet, you hit rock. Really hard, immovable rock. The soil is amazing and most anything will grow but it is strange to have lush evergreens growing next to big chunks of organic granite and hard, hard bedrock. We find all sorts of stones and rocks around our property. Things I would have dreamt of finding among the pines growing up. I am not sure what kind of rock is in the photograph. I loved the yellow tones and small flecks of shiny mica.
