My all time favorite place to visit is the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. I used to visit there once a month with my dad when I was little. The Hall of Gems was always my favorite and I would spend over an hour silently staring at rocks and gems while my dad took a break on a nearby bench. There is a specific smell to that room and a temperature of the air. It's cooler than the rest of the museum and maintains a rather scientific and antiseptic smell mixed with soft carpeting. While I loved to look at all the rough cut crystals and minerals, it was always the polished gems that drew me in. They still do.
